Astellas Global Health Foundation committed US$ 750,000 to support NTD programs

Astellas Global Health Foundation announced the first grant, awarding $750,000 to the END Fund, a philanthropic organization combating NTDs, to control NTDs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Astellas Global Health Foundation (AGHF) was established in 2018, aiming the social contribution on three areas in health; mental health, NTDs, and child health in low and middle-income countries where the Astellas Pharma Inc. is not developing the business.

Preparatory Meeting for NTD Summit in Kigali, Rwanda

December 11, 2019

The 2012 London Declaration gathered support for NTDs control by partners around the world. A successor declaration will be issued in Kigali, Rwanda in June 2020. JAGntd has participated in its preparatory meeting hosted by Uniting to Combat NTDs (4-5, Dec/2019, Brighton, UK).

Country Teams from the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, and Canada attended the preparatory meeting and shared the status of preparations in each country. Discussions were held on various events scheduled for 2020. JAGntd intends to deepen dialogue with Japanese stakeholders toward the Kigali Declaration.

Parliamentary Group asked the government to support Africa

November 18, 2019

On November 12, 2019, following the 2d. Meeting of the Parliamentary League for Elimination of NTDs, the league members filed a request with the Ministry of Finance for the budgetary adjustments to support NTDs control programs in Africa.

Workshop held at the 60th Annual Meeting for the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine to link R&D with A&D

 On November 10 (Sun), at the 60th. Annual Meeting for the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine held in Okinawa, a workshop “Perspective of a research network on NTDs in Japan” was hosted by JAGntd.

After keynote speeches given by Mr. Kondo, UNDP Representative in Japan, Mr. Urabe from GHIT Fund, Mr, Hiraoka from JICA and Prof. Anang from Ghana Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, an open discussion was held on how the researchers of tropical medicine can be involved in and contribute to access and delivery of medical supplies.

For smooth linkage from R&D to access and delivery, the meeting recommended that Japanese researchers on NTDs be more interested in contributing to A&D. JAGntd will promote this movement.
