At this event sponsored by SPJ, Professor Peter J. Hotez (Baylor College of Medicine), who was selected as one of the candidates for this year's Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to the development of an inexpensive COVID-19 vaccine, will take the stage as the main guest.

4. Overview:
In recent years, the causes of the spread of infectious diseases are diversifying, such as poverty, war, political instability, urbanization, deforestation, anti-science movements, and climate change. Professor Hotez stresses the need for more international cooperation than ever before, as the number of victims of pandemics exceeds those of war and terrorism. He also explained the current situation and issues surrounding global health in an easy-to-understand manner, such as the fight against anti-vaccine movements and the development of a COVID-19 vaccine that can be provided to the poor. In the second half of the seminar, Professor Hotez and Professor Takuma discussed measures for the future.
