September 17, 2019 @ Liverpool, UK

Participated in the annual meeting of the Neglected Tropical Diseases NGO Network (NNN), "Vision for 2020 and beyond: Many partners and one voice."

The following is an excerpt of the main points from the meeting report of the session "NTDs Advocacy Networks in Each Country: Working Together for the NTDs Roadmap (2021-2030)" in which JAGntd participated.

  • In addition to Japan (JAGntd), NTDs networks representing countries and regions such as Canada, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Africa will participate to support the NTDs countermeasure roadmap (2021-2030) scheduled to be announced by WHO next year. , Discussed NTDs research and advocacy.
  • Some NTDs cannot be eliminated by mass drug administration. The new WHO roadmap provides an opportunity to redefine diagnostic and therapeutic needs. In addition, strategies are needed to address the psychological consequences of NTDs.
  • Advocacy in countries where NTDs are endemic is critical to success on the new WHO roadmap. Demand should be stimulated through reference to HIV and climate change movements, treatment as a human rights issue rather than biomedicine, and actions by young people.
  • We will send a message emphasizing how investment in NTDs will contribute to strengthening the health system and other development goals.
